Consultation and help with your own projects
Either bring some in-progress projects you’d like help with, or ask about areas of sewing you lack confidence in and we will walk you through understanding them; there are no stupid questions!
Choose any in-stock pattern to work on with the instructor
It usually takes 2 classes to work through a pattern with an instructor. You can schedule multiple classes now, or schedule them as needed.
Each person taking the class will require a copy of the pattern. Material requirements vary with pattern choice.
Make a necktie from scratch
Great gift idea!
Make a pair of pyjama/lounge pants
This is a classic starter project that familiarizes you with basic sewing functions and gives you the confidence to begin sewing your own clothes.
It takes 2 classes to complete this project.
Make an elastic-waisted circle skirt
This is a fun project with stylish results! (Beginner appropriate but less sewing machine orientation time than the intro to sewing class)
Draft your own custom skirt block
Draft a basic skirt pattern to fit your own measurements; never worry about skirts that don’t fit again!
Note: this class only covers the pattern-drafting, but not the construction of the skirt or alterations to the pattern.
**OPTIONAL: 2nd or 3rd classes may be taken on how to alter/customize your skirt block to create original designs.
Learn basic repairs and alterations
If you have specific repairs or alterations in mind, please inquire beforehand; some repairs and alterations are beginner appropriate (for example: hemming, taking in side seams, etc.), others are intermediate (for example: things which involve deconstruction and reconstruction), and others may be too involved for the time constraints or not possible with basic tools (for example: leather repair, replacing lined coat zipper, etc).
Materials not included. We recommend pre-washing your fabric before class for the best outcome. If you order your fabric from us and let us know it is for a class, we are happy to pre-wash it for you as well.
We have sewing machines (Janome HD 5000) available for use during the class or you can bring your own. Please indicate how many students will not be bringing their own machine.
Class will be held at the Spool & Spindle Studio:
142 Waterloo St.
Each student will receive a one-time use 20% off coupon for use at Spool & Spindle (online or in-store).
