Sweetheart Necklines

A sweetheart neckline is a great option for a neckline. It has a distinct, curved appearance that mimics the top of a heart shape. Cute, right? It's one of the rare examples of "does what it says on the tin". It's called a sweetheart, it's heart-shaped, bada bing bada boom! You'll see it used on vintage party dresses, wedding dresses, and blouses; often it's paired with a tulle or mesh top to accentuate the shape of the curves. In more modern times, it is reminiscent of the shape of many superhero costumes, so you'll see it used in cosplay as well. It's great for colourblocking, or just for adding a cute detail to a more basic pattern.

I've rounded up some of my favourite sweetheart neckline patterns from indie designers; and as always, we can print them for you!

(Chest: 30" - 54", Waist: 23.5" - 48", Hips: 33" - 58")
This dress has so many options! Choose from different hem lengths (the peplum tunic length is shown above), different sleeve lengths, as well as three ways of finishing the neckline. While it's a more traditional take on the sweetheart neckline, the skater-style dress really updates the look to a modern style.
We recommend the following fabrics for this pattern:
Jersey Knits, Bamboo Jersey, Knit Prints, ITY

marigold jumpsuit pattern cover
(Chest: 30" - 44", Waist: 24" - 38", Hips: 33"-47")
I LOVE this modern twist on a sweetheart neckline! Using it on a jumpsuit/overalls is absolutely adorable, and great for a less gendered look. Plus, this pattern is great for beginners, with an elasticized waist and minimal shaping. At the moment, this pattern does not have the inclusive sizing we strive to feature, but Tilly and the Buttons has been increasing their size range and has already added more sizes to many of their patterns.
We recommend the following fabrics for this pattern:
Linen, Heavyweight Wovens, Lightweight Denim, Cotton Crepe

(Chest: 32.5" - 58.5", Waist: 24.5" - 49.5", Hips: 34.5" - 63")
This dress is an absolutely knockout! Pair some glitzy fabric with a stretchy solid lining, and you've got the perfect flashy dress for extra fun occasions. Or, pick your favourite print for a dress that's perfectly you!
We recommend the following fabrics for this pattern:
Jersey Knits, Bamboo Jersey, Knit Prints, ITY

(Chest: 32.5" - 58.5", Waist: 24.5" - 49.5", Hips: 34.5" - 63")
An absolutely adorable sundress, you could dress this up for weddings and special events, or make it in a simple cotton for those hot summer days! It calls for a heavyweight knit, so choose a cotton for a more structured look, or a rayon or bamboo for something a little more swingy!
We recommend the following fabrics for this pattern:
Jersey Knits, Bamboo Jersey, Knit Prints, ITY

(Chest: 30" - 44", Waist: 24" - 38", Hips: 33"- 47")
Featuring an easy sweetheart neckline as one of the options, this top is endlessly versatile! Make it with the puffed sleeves, or use a stripe to really accentuate the heart-shaped neckline. (note: the cover image for this shows the scoop neck option, but it does have a sweetheart neckline option!)
We recommend the following fabrics for this pattern:

(Chest: 31" - 58", Waist: 25" - 54", Hip: 33" - 61")
