This design features an extinct species, The Lost Sunflower. Create a small stitched memorial for this plant from the past.
Helianthus praetermissus was a species of sunflower found in New Mexico. One single specimen was collected in 1851 and it hasn't been seen since. Apparently there is some belief that there may still be some in existence as the people collecting the samples in 1851 didn't do a great job of keeping track of where they were collecting from, and the area in general has been under surveyed since. Sounds to me like they gave it an impressive sounding name because "we didn't really double check our work Sunflower" was too embarrassing to say.
