Oh goodness, this fabric. I am an absolute sucker for interesting wovens; and this collection from Ruby Star Society is the very definition of interesting wovens. They've used various weaving techniques to create fabric with texture, interest, and- dare I say it- a little bit of intrigue. If this fabric was a British Detective; it would be the Poirot of fabrics. Fussy, but brilliant. I make no promises about this fabric's ability to solve crimes on trains, however.
Anyways, the fabric, right. It really is gorgeous. It is surprisingly lightweight; much more akin to a lawn with fluid movement and gentle drape. The pattern on this fabric is made with small threads running through the weft of the fabric; the 'wrong' side is also the reverse of the front. I think it looks quite neat, and could be used to contrast or accent, as cuffs, collars, or pockets. However, it is made up of little threads, so care needs to be taken if you're going to get fancy.
- Collection: Ruby Star Society Warp Weft Wovens
- Designer: Alexia Abegg
- Width: 44"-45" Wide
- Content: 100% Cotton
- Weight: lightweight; leans more towards a lawn than a quilting cotton
- Opacity: mostly opaque; light colours are more sheer, and we would recommend wearing a cami or lining
- Drape: some body but more drape than I was expecting. Not exactly swishy, but has a lovely hang.
- Care: wash cold, hang to dry or tumble low.
- Best suited for: blouses, dresses, shirts
Fabric is priced and sold by the 1/4 metre. We cut multiple 1/4 metres continuously. For example; 2 units is 1/2m, 3 units is 3/4m, 4 units is a full metre, 5 units is 1.25m. A single 1/4 metre will be cut as a fat quarter, unless you request a skinny quarter. Fat Quarters are half the width of the fabric x 0.5m, whereas Skinny Quarters are the full width of the fabric x 0.25m. We do this so you can order just as much fabric as you need, to decrease fabric wastage.
